We take a song from its first spark; a chord, a melody, an emotion.. and shape it into a finished piece.
This process, AKA music production is both an art & a science, a world of choices around vibe, genre, key, tempo, etc.At Odd Owl, we guide artists through the full journey: from vocal coaching and capturing best performances, to shaping sounds with technical expertise, and a generous dose of psychology (yes, sometimes a little therapy too).We also offer "pieces of music production" professionally and tastefully recorded using our expertise and experience in 'session musician' work. Need a beat? Real drums, bass, guitar or keyboard part for your own production? Hit us up!
Looking to get your vocals recorded using a high end recording chain?

Welcome and thank you for considering Odd Owl Studio for your project!
Choosing a studio and a producer is a very personal thing. This guide is designed to answer your initial questions and give you a clear picture of how it all works. In it, you will find the following sections:
Each song is its own creature. Some take an hour, others take 40+, depending on scope and complexity.Typical investments for a fully produced, mixed and mastered song:
Simple (1 to 3 instruments): $200 - $500
Average: $500 - $1000
Large: $1000 - $2000+
How much does it cost to produce a song?

Simple (1 to 3 instruments): $200 - $500
Average: $500 - $1000
Large: $1000 - $2000+Do you charge by the hour or by the project?
We estimate per project, but charge hourly. This gives your project room to evolve naturally. In some cases, we can agree on a fixed project rate or work within a set budget.
Most importantly, everything is discussed ahead of time, so there are no surprises or hidden fees, ever. What's your hourly rate?
- $50/hr : Unattended sessions (the behind-the-scenes work, which is 80%+ of most projects)
- $60/hr : Attended sessions on weekdays (Mon-Fri / 9am to 6pm)
- $70/hr : Attended sessions on evenings or weekendsWe take a no-compromise approach to both the creative and technical aspects of music production. Custom, organic recordings, expertly engineered with top-tier gear (some of our microphones cost more than entire home studios), backed by 25 years of experience. No AI, no sample packs, no cookie-cutter templates, no fix-it-in-the-mix. Everything is made intentionally from the ground up.Compared to large Vancouver studios charging $100–$150/hr without a producer, you’re getting equivalent quality here, with a more personal process and in a more relaxed, creative atmosphere. Why the difference between attended/unattended?
Most work happens behind the scenes—focused, productive, on our own schedule. Attended sessions involve scheduling, preparation, real-time collaboration, and communication, so they’re priced accordingly. Is a deposit required?
Yes, usually $200 - $500 depending on the scope of your project. This secures your first session and allows us to start investing time and energy into your project. When are payments due?
All balances are due before final mixes or masters are delivered.Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We’re happy to work with artists on a budget when possible.
At the end of the day, we’re here for the music and want to help you get great results on a budget.
We offer a free 30-minute meet & greet / studio tour, in person, or on the phone with no obligation.
We will talk vision, estimate costs, get a sense of the space, and see if we click.
We would book your first session and take a deposit ($200-$500), as well as ask for reference tracks and/or your favourite artists. On your first session, we start by capturing the heart of your song / project; exploring keys, tempos, groove, genre direction; and record your vocals (which could end up being the final takes).
After this we start developing the production, arrangement, and instrumentation around your vision.

Yes, all we need is a demo (even a phone recording) to build the production from.Do you work with bands or artists with own arrangements?
Absolutely, arrangements is only one piece of the pie. We can bring our expertise in specific ways to help bands. From shaping tones, choice of instruments, performance, confidence, feel, groove and production elements to bring a professional edge to your existing sound. Why do you ask for reference tracks?
The same song can exist in many different worlds. Reference tracks or artists help us understand the sonic landscape you’re inspired by and avoid guesswork. Because “make it sound good” means something different to everyone. At the end of the day—it has to sound like you, not us.What if I don’t have any reference tracks?
Most artists discover references after a short chat. If not, we’re happy to explore directions together.I am a new artist, can you work with me? Do you offer artist development?
Yes! We love working with new artists.

What does a producer do?
The producer role has evolved over the years. Nowadays, everything!
Creative direction & arrangement, recording & engineering, sound design & tone shaping, vocal coaching & performance guidance, music theory, gear wizardry, instrument nerdness, acoustics, and last but not least, psychology, making you feel like a star and bringing out your best! What is your "Production Style"?
We work from the ground up with each artist, building a unique sonic world for your project. No shortcuts or generic approaches.
We work across a wide range of genres—pop, indie, rock, soul, country, jazz, EDM, hip hop, christian, electronic, spiritual, ambient and more—and often blend elements between them.Do I need to bring a band?
This is completely up to you and your budget. Our in-house producer plays multiple instruments, which allows for a quick and efficient workflow, ensuring sonic cohesion and professional results.
You get the studio, a producer and musician for one hourly rate. 3 for the price of 1!Want to bring your own players or play yourself?
Absolutely! Just note it adds costs and logistics.I have a half-finished song, can you help?
Yes, bring it in, we will add what it takes to make it release-ready. Put real drums in, add a layer of production, instrumentation then mix & master. Can you do video as well? If so, what does it cost?
Yes, and we encourage artists to consider it. We live in a visual world, and pairing your song with a well-crafted video adds significant value, expanding your artistic expression and presence for a relatively small investment of 1-3 hours at our hourly rate.We create high-quality, cinematic 4K videos designed to feel as intentional as the music itself. No static, “set-and-forget” shots—everything is approached with movement, depth, and atmosphere in mind.
Our setup includes professional gear such as Sony A7 III cameras paired with fast prime lenses (85mm, 50mm & 24mm f/1.4), gimbal and video lighting.
For examples of recent work, please visit the “Work” section on our website. What do I get at the end?
Files are delivered in 24bit WAV, 16bit WAV, High quality MP3s (320kb/s) and Apple Lossless.I don’t need any production services, what other services do you offer?
Vocal or instrument recording; Voice-over work; Mixing & Mastering, Videoshoots.
What is the turnaround time? How long does it take to get a song or project done?
We are typically managing multiple projects at any given time. We run a "queue" system.
First Session + Deposit = You’re in the queue.
“Simmering” phase (Typically 4-8 weeks) — Your project is on the back of our mind. We get ideas for it while working on other projects at no extra cost to you. It’s a win-win.
“Front Burner” phase — When it's your project's turn, we focus deeply and complete the project efficiently. Starting with pre-production where we try out ideas, then proceed to intentional recordings which minimize editing, followed by mixing & mastering. We can sometimes accommodate rush projects if you have a tight deadline. What is mixing & mastering?
Mixing is the art of balancing and enhancing each element in a track; shaping tone, depth, width, and dynamics to create a cohesive, compelling sound.
Mastering applies the final polish; optimizing loudness, clarity, and consistency.
What are your hours?
Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Evening and weekend by exception.Where is the studio located?
In a private residence in Garrison, Chilliwack. Transit options around the corner.I don’t drive, can you help?
Yes, we may be able to help with rides depending on distance, or arrange something for a small fee.
What are the studio amenities?
kitchen + healthy snacks, bathroom, parking, EV charger. Many food options within a short walk. What’s the space like?
Cozy, tidy, and a fun musical playground with instruments everywhere. Candles, essential oils, vibey lamps, minimal setup, maximum creative flow. Are there studio pets?
Yes! A goofy golden-doodle who demands pets, and a quiet cat who might even brush against you mid-take. Oh, and a certain odd owl too ;o)Is the studio environment safe, comfortable and professional?
The studio is private and intentionally low-pressure with only positive vibes. We aim for a balance of professional, relaxed, creative and fun. We prioritize respect, comfort, safety and clear communication. You don’t have to have it all figured out, we’re here to guide you through the process from stylistic decisions, to arrangement support, vocal coaching, mic technique and performance confidence.I’m a solo female artist and a little nervous about a private studio. Is there a way to meet first?
Your comfort and peace of mind come first. We can meet at a coffee shop or public place of your choice. We have worked extensively with solo female artists and can provide plenty of references.
